The Western Cape held their divisional meeting on Friday, 30 July at Kleinmond. On the previous afternoon the delegates started to arrive and met for workshops on the different portfolios. After the workshops, everybody enjoyed the evening with an informal braai together. Momentum sponsored the meeting and was represented by MC Theart and Danian du Plessis. Special guests from FIA were former divisional chairman, John Bezuidenhout, CEO Manie Booysen and President Seamus Casserley. Manie and Seamus were given the opportunity to address the committee at the meeting the next day.

Dear Peninsula members At our last member meeting held in Camps Bay on 23 April some of you brought blankets in answer to our request on your invite to do so. Your committee wished to donate these to very needy pupils at Ruyterwacht Preparatory School to keep them warm on cold winter nights. Most of you attending the lunch who did not bring a blanket donated generously towards our effort resulting in R2500 being collected. We were able to buy an additional 60 blankets. Last Thursday, 3 June Donovan Witten, Peter Teuchert, Salomi Steenkamp and I visited the School to hand over the blankets. The principal had identified children in advance as needy recipients for the blankets, and they or their parents have written letters thanking the school and the FIA. When we arrived with the blankets, an entire flip-file with thank you notes was handed to us. This file will be available for all of you to peruse at our next meeting. The children were extremely excited and it was a heart-warming occasion. Attached are some of the photos taken by Peter, as well as four of the thank you notes. FIA Peninsula held their member meeting on 23 April at the Hussar Grill in Camps Bay. Two special certificates were presented: a 25 year membership certificate to Johan Coetzee, as well as a specially ordered “45 years of service to the industry” certificate to Geoff Hirschmann. Members were asked to bring blankets or make a cash donation to buy more, and R 2500 was collected. Thank you all the generous donators! The balnkets will be distributed to those who most need them. Two new members have also joined the meeting – welcome to Clive Rutherford and Demetri Champanis.

Op Vrydag, 26 Maart 2010, het die Boland tak van die FIA (FINANCIAL INTERMEDIARIES ASSOCIATION OF SOUTHERN AFRICA) hulle jaarlikse gholfdag by Erinvale Gholfklub gehou. Die dag se opbrengs sal aangewend word om diegene in nood te help en altesaam vyf begunstigdes is geïdenitifiseer. Hulle is Helderberg Rape Crisis, Friends Day Care Centre, Cotlands, Brandwag Primêre Skool en Temprance Town Primêre Skool in Gordonsbaai. Verteenwoordigers van drie van hierdie organisasies het die prysuitdeling van die gholfdag bygewoon en hulle dank en waardering teenoor die FIA Boland uitgespreek. Al hierdie instansies is in 'n groot mate afhanklik van donasies en die komitee en lede van die FIA Boland wou graag op hierdie wyse iets teruggee aan die gemeenskap. Die dag was 'n groot sukses met 116 spelers en 13 borge wat die donasies moontlike gemaak het.

FIA Protea Branch Golf Day took place on the 13th October 2009 at CMR Golf Club. All members of the branch were invited, as well as guests from the Industry, Service providers and Management from FIA Head Office. PG Glass was the main Sponsor. All went well and every player contributed to the success of the day. During the dinner that was served, the Chairman, Phil Cooper, thanked everybody present and prizes were given to the winners of the day, which was Santam who walked away with the trophy. Lydia Cook from PG Glass, thanked everybody for their participation and mentioned that it is a privilege to be the main sponsor of Protea Branch.

The FIA Protea Branch held their Cocktail function at Randpark Golf Club on 18 June 2009 and it was attended by 127 people including members, insurers and product providers. The purpose of the function was to communicate with each other. The Chairman, Phil Cooper welcomed everybody and thanked the members for their loyal support. He extended a special word of welcome to Brian Martin, Short-term Ombudsman; Arnold van der Linde, President of the FIA, and Top Management of FIA Head office. He asked Arnold van der Linde to address the guests and he provided the patrons with valuable information regarding changes in the insurance industry and stressed the importance of their credits. Phil Cooper thanked in particular all the sponsors for the evening. They were: Mutual & Federal, PG Glass & Zurich and he asked Michael McCann, Lydia Cook and Malcolm Rowe respectively to say a few words. He also thanked the Board and Head Office Officials for their hard work and support.

After a rather busy year for all the FIA Protea Branch members, we had the opportunity to relax and enjoy the Annual Dinner Dance at Randpark Golf Club on the 06th November 2009. There were 180 guests and members attending the function, which varied from guests of the Industry as well as Service Providers. Phil Cooper, the Chairman welcomed everybody present and in particular the top Management of FIA, as well as Brian Martin, the Ombudsman. He also thanked PG Glass, who won the trophy as sponsor of the year. Tracker was thanked for the wine on the tables, as well as Glasfit for their sponsorship for the evening. Pieter Koen was the MC. With his good sense of humor and a few songs and jokes, the party started in full swing. The Worx band did a splendid job by playing a wide variety of music, for everybody to enjoy. The Spanish- and Latin dancers from Hands on Promotions were excellent and contributed to make the evening one of the highlights of 2009!

The FIA Protea Branch held their annual golf day on 30 September 2008 at Glenvista Country Club. It was a full field and a day enjoyed by all the teams who played with much enthusiasm. The main sponsor for the day was PG Glass who made all the players feel welcome by offering them a welcome drink when teeing off. Other sponsors that contributed in making this day a huge success were Mutual & Federal, Glasfit, Santam, Execuline, AIG, Etana Insurance, Zurich, Profile Glass, Qantam, Dex IT, Auto & General, Munich Re Group, Tracker, Schüler Malherbe Incorporated and The Complete Golfer. The floating trophy for the best team was awarded to Profile Glass. Some of the proceeds of the day were donated to “The Gateway Society”. In the picture attached, Johan Swart is handing the cheque to Mr. Dennis Styles who is the chairperson for this charity organisation. Die FIA Protea Tak het hulle jaarlikse gholfdag vir liefdadigheid gehou te Glenvista Buiteklub op 30 September 2008. Dit was ‘n vol veld en ‘n genotvolle dag wat al die spelers met groot entoesisme gedeel het. Die hoofborg vir die dag was PG Glass wat al die spelers welkom geheet het met ‘n verwelkomingsdrankie. Ander borge wat daartoe bygedra het om die dag ‘n groot sukses te maak was Mutual & Federal, Glasfit, Santam, Execuline, AIG, Etana Insurance, Zurich, Profile Glass, Qantam, Dex IT, Auto & General, Munich Re Group, Tracker, Schüler Malherbe Incorporated and The Complete Golfer. Die wisseltrofee vir die beste span is toegeken aan Profile Glass. ‘n Gedeelte van die opbrengs is geskenk aan “The Gateway Society”. Aangeheg is ‘n foto waar Johan Swart die tjek oorhandig aan Dennis Styles wat die Voorsitter is van die liefdadigheidsorganisasie.

FIA COO Justus van Pletzen congratulates Hannes van Wyk on his achievement of winning Badminton/ Pluimbal - The S.A. Golden Eagles Vetrans Singles Badminton on (11/06/2009) and was selected for the National Team. Tennis – He won theTennis Singles title in Pretoria (Groenkloof) on 16/06/2009 and qualified for the National S.A. Team to compete in the International Team event agaist other countries to be hosted in Perth Australia from 2-7 November 2009. He will also be competing in the Individual World Championships from 8 -15 November 2009. Well done Hannes and good luck for the tournaments.
